Can you build it for nginx?

It's a bit complicated and for what purpose?

You can easier use varnish for caching and speeding up your traffic. Nginx I saw some panel using it in front of apache as the main issue will be keeping alive all apache features like .htaccess and that's totally crazy.

Currently focus will remain on improving current apache support.

I think that is better with nginx, to load a pages faster.
How to install varnish?

Most users will request apache features... Nginx is great but not for beginners users that will end up ddos support over request .htacces not working or password directories.

Nginx is faster but implies another setup!

Varnish google it and you must have some knowledge over how to setup a reverse proxy.
