Sentora only controls the main web services on your server:
If you try to upgrade any of the above, you do risk the possibility of configuration issues. There may be tutorials for upgrading some of these services in our forums you could try.
Using apt-get dist-upgrade is a no-no.
There are tutorials to upgrade php to 5.6.x if you don't already have it. php 7 is not yet supported due to suhosin (one of our third party security measures not maintained by us) being slow to release a php 7 version
In general, most other programs you may want to add should be OK as long as they don't interfere with the web services. If you are not sure, just ask here
