Trying to access subdomain says "This page can’t be displayed" error

After creating the subdomain -- having it point to a specific folder, and waiting for it to go "Live," the page will not come up -- http://powerboatnet.rubyyachts.com. The main site comes up fine.

I am using the DNS manager at Dreamhost (DreamCompute -- cloud hosting). They don't do anything with subdomains; is not having a DNS record for the subdomain my problem?

That is the problem all subdomains need to have a "cname" in the fan zone file.

the subdomain you posted is not pinging to any ip (which means has no DNS record YET!)
probably you should wait or something till the records gets updated.
test with online ping to make sure:
http://ping.eu/ping/

Make sure all your DNS records are setup correctly!

:/ for me i just setup the new subdomain in sentora and it works just after it says live!

1.) Created the subdomain in Sentora. We are not using their DNS feature.

2.) Created an A Record for the subdomain in DreamHost's DNS manager.

3.) Working fine!!
